1 INTRODUCTION
In 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) has published a new evidence-based clinical practice guideline to support the provision of high-quality care for women with sickle-cell disease (SCD) in the perinatal period [1]. The guideline aims to provide actionable guidance that can improve outcomes for women with SCD and their babies, while placing a spotlight on the complex interaction between SCD and pregnancy.
