MCH would like to announce that we have purchased additional training access for any personnel working with prenatal families. The SPEAK UP Program consists of three 30–45-minute web-based interactive online education modules, developed by the Institute for Perinatal Quality Improvement (PQI), to provide interactive web-based education designed for healthcare workers who care for Black, Indigenous, and people of color who are or may become pregnant. These modules are part of the SPEAK UP Champions training program. The three CNE/CME modules highlights:
• Module 1: Why Everyone Must SPEAK UP: Trends and Racial Disparities in Maternal Mortality and Morbidity
• Module 2: Pledging to SPEAK UP: Recognizing Bias, Inequities, and Racism in Perinatal Care
• Module 3: How to SPEAK UP Against Racism in Perinatal Care
At the conclusion of each module, learners will:
• describe trends in the rate of maternal mortality and severe morbidity
• identify the leading causes of pregnancy-related mortality in the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum phases
• describe racial disparities in maternal mortality
• define key types of bias, inequity, and racism
• describe the origins of bias, inequity, and racism in perinatal health
• recognize bias, inequity, and racism when observed in interpersonal or institutional contexts
• pledge to SPEAK UP Against Racism
• describe the SPEAK UP Against Racism Action Pathway
• outline the meaning of the SPEAK UP acronym
• analyze SPEAK UP strategies to address discriminatory conversation and acts
• describe key components of a personal SPEAK UP Action Plan
Registration and access to the modules are captured in the attached flyers with the access codes. This training is offered to those that have not completed the courses previously.
