Abstract
It is well recognized that certain adverse pregnancy outcomes are associated with underlying cardiovascular risk factors, identifying individuals who are at greater long-term risk of cardiovascular disease. As such, it is recommended that cardiovascular risk screening, counselling, and lifestyle modification occur within the first year postpartum for health preservation, disease prevention, and future pregnancy planning. Obstetrical care providers are ideally situated to identify these individuals and ensure that a follow-up plan, understood by the patient and the care providers, is put in place. This invited review focuses on the postpartum screening expectations, including implementation strategies that bridge obstetrical and longer-term care.
