OBJECTIVE
Pregnant American Indian and Alaskan Native (AIAN) people are at disproportionately higher risk of maternal morbidity and mortality.1 However, the root causes of this disparity are not well understood.2 This study aimed to describe trends in severe maternal morbidity and associated factors among AIAN individuals and to provide contemporary estimates of morbidity risk in this population.
