Time:
10:00 am - 2:30 pm
Event Category:

In August 2019, The Joint Commission (TJC) introduced new standards for perinatal safety. These standards are similar to the bundles on obstetric hemorrhage and severe hypertension introduced by the Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health (AIM) in 2015. Hospitals often encounter barriers to implementation. In a multi-disciplinary online course, national experts in patient safety and quality improvement will provide practical tips and helpful tools to implement the new standards, which will soon be required of all TJC-accredited maternity centers.

Course Co-Hosts: Alliance for Innovation in Maternal Health, American College of Nurse-Midwives, National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, National Institute for Children’s Health Quality, National Network of Perinatal Quality Collaboratives, Preeclampsia Foundation, and Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Who Should Attend: OBGYNs, MFMs, midwives, nurses, nurse practitioners, women’s health nurse practitioners, hospital safety and quality staff, and administrators who are charged with keeping their facilities within TJC standards.

Purpose: To help facilities meet TJC’s new standards for perinatal safety. View the site for additional details.

When: The live course will take place via Zoom on October 23 from 1:00 to 5:30 PM (EDT) and October 24 from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM (EDT). The course will be recorded and available for purchase after the live event.

Cost: $40. Registered attendees will receive a link to launch the course in mid-October.

Course Objectives: After this course, learners will be able to: 1) discuss the importance of hemorrhage, hypertension, and racial inequities as preventable causes of maternal death in the United States; 2) discuss similarities and differences between TJC’s new standards for perinatal safety and the AIM bundles for obstetric hemorrhage and severe hypertension; and 3) implement strategies for meeting the new standards, including written protocols and procedures, education of providers and staff, multidisciplinary drills, review of cases, and provision of educational materials to patients and families.
