DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nThis 1-day course utilizes a strong simulation focus and multiple learning modalities to prepare individuals to lead trainings at their institutions. It will be held at the state-of-the-art Mary & Michael Jaharis Simulation Center at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center and hosted by leaders in simulation science. Participants in this course can expect to increase their knowledge of best simulation and staff training practices to support the implementation and sustainability of the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) Obstetric Hemorrhage Bundle in their organizations and the complementary Practicing for Patients manual. \nCourse Objectives\nAttendees at this course will learn steps to establish in-situ drill training at their institutions\, including: \n\nHow to generate institutional buy-in and pull together a multi-disciplinary team\nHow to facilitate a postpartum hemorrhage drill and run effective debriefs\nHow to identify opportunities for improvement\nHow to implement institutional change\n\nIt is strongly suggested that attendees also attend Quality and Safety for Leaders in Women’s Health Care as a prerequisite (December 13 and 14\, 2019 or previous offerings).  If participants have not attended the course and wish to participate in this course\, permission must be obtained. Dr. Terplan will be giving a presentation entitled\, “Improving Care Improves Outcomes: Substance Use Disorder in Pregnancy and Postpartum.” The event is free to attend and refreshments will be provided. CMEs and CEUs are in the process of being approved for the event. \nDr. Terplan is dual board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and addiction medicine and is currently a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Psychiatry and an Associate Professor of Addiction Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also serves as the Addiction Medicine Consultant for the Virginia Department of Medicaid Service\, is a consultant for the National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare\, has active grant-funded research projects and represents the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Society of Addiction Medicine on various taskforces\, including the AMA’s Taskforce to Reduce Opioid Abuse. These services will help to prevent and/or treat perinatal mood and anxiety disorders\, including therapy\, doula support\, lactation services\, attachment classes\, and more. \nPSI-OK is the Oklahoma state chapter of Postpartum Support International (PSI)\, the world’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to helping those suffering from perinatal mood disorders\, the most common complication of childbirth. \nTheir mission is to promote awareness\, education\, prevention\, and treatment of perinatal mental health issues affecting mothers\, their families\, and support systems in all areas of Oklahoma. \nClick here to learn more about their maternal mental health walk.

DESCRIPTION:1-day Training Course \n$ FREE (via a contract with the Oklahoma State Department of Health) \n7.5 CEUs \nAgenda \nThis class teaches health care staff current information and skills to support breastfeeding mothers and their children\, particularly during the prenatal and early postpartum periods. The class utilizes various modes of learning\, including hands on activities\, videos\, small group work\, equipment demonstration\, etc. Class participants will be evaluated for basic breastfeeding competencies and receive 7.5 nursing contact hours.
